Day 49: Surprise, AZ - Into Phoenix suburb “Surprise”
I left the Aguila motel at 8:30am and arrived 25 miles later in the larger community of Wickenburg (population 5,000) around 11am. Found a coffee shop with free wi-fi and spent the next four hours on the internet. I’m still not feeling at 100% for some reason, but I’m guessing my body is just reacting to the activity and climate change. At 3pm I decided to get at least to Wittman, a tiny community another 16 miles away. I made good time as the elevation dropped about 600′ but found Wittman to have no camping possibilities short of knocking on doors. It was 4:15pm and I decided to make a sprint for Surprise, a suburb of Phoenix about 20 miles away. I got here as it was getting dark and splurged on a Comfort Inn as I didn’t see any cheap motels (my usual fare).
